Fish ahoy

Have updated the Players page with all of the latest signings to the Fish squad! Haven't quite got all the details from people so might just start making it up. Still more new people to go as we finalise the 2 teams for Edinburgh which is just a few weeks away!

Och aye the Fish

Very excited about the Two fish teams going up to Edinburgh Festiball in a few weeks time - we've got lots of players who will be putting on the "famous" Blue, White and Orange and I'm looking forward to updating the Fish website in the next few days to add all of the newcomers to the line-up page.

Kippers for breakfast

The Fish visited Glasgow this weekend for the Tartan Tournament our debut softball tournament.

It was a fantastic weekend - you will be able to check out the Tournaments page for more info on who played for the Fish and which teams we played.

There was a good Manchester turnout for the weekend, with the Lions and Dadsbury Bits both attending meaning that three Manc teams out of fifteen.

Not only was it a great weekend to Debut the Fish but also a cracking send off for Griff (aka Filet O') who is off to Canada in the next few days, and to Steve who's not been around Manchester much lately but will be heading over to the other side of the Atlantic in the next few months too.

Here's a little montage of some of the best (see only bits we videoed) bits from the weekend.

There was some stuff that we didn't manage to catch on camera included Griff's amazing Grand Slam Homer/Superman slide at home.

Glasgow Here We Come

Fantastic! I've just spent a lazy Saturday afternoon updating the Fish website with all the latest signings - check out the players section for info on Blue Damsel, The Codfather and others...

We gave the Surfing Centurions a great send off at the Edinburgh Indoor Tournament last month winning some new glassware for Dave and some beer for the rest of us. Here's a pic of some of us taking it easy on the grass outside the sports facility at Fettes College (Tony Blair's old school don-cha-know!)

So with the Surfing Centurions going out on a high it's time to look to the future and watch as the Fish spread their fins and head to Cumbernauld in Scotland for the Tartan Tournament.

Our Glasgow line-up has been pretty much confirmed and it looks like we've got a great weekend in store with Northern Blindfish (Di) taking the honour of breaking in the captain's armband.

I'm sure we're all keeping our fingers crossed for decent weather - the last two years has been pretty rubbish, icicles on the tent, horizontal sleet... you know, the typical late May in Scotland! You might call it common sense or you might call it a crime against softball but I'm booked into a hotel for the weekend along with many of the other Fish.

We're still looking for players for the other tournaments that the Fish are playing at in 2007 they are :

Bristol Rec Tournament - 18/19 August
Edinburgh Festiball Tournament - 25/26 August
Softball 'C Nationals' - 8/9 August (NOT FOR CERTAIN)
Solent Lastball Tournament - 22/23 September

If you're interested in playing at any of these tournaments you can email tourneys@manchesterfish.net and let us know, or just speak to us in the pub...

See you all in Cumbernauld

Fish Starting To Swim

Things have really started to get going for The Fish over the last few days and I can't wait for our first proper softball tournament in Glasgow, which will be in May unfortunately as the Fish aren't going to the Edinburgh Indoor Softball (but we'll be playing as the Surfin' Cents for the last time ever) and we're not going to the Mets Pre-Season Firstball Softball tourney as I'm taking a Thunder team.

So we've got our website up and running which is looking pretty cool now at www.manchesterfish.net. I really like the blog idea and I hope that other members of the team will take advantage and post their own entries as well. The gallery seems to be working although I've not really tested it much and the player profiles are coming along too. This evening I've added a search function - which will search the standard pages and the blog pages but I'm not sure about the gallery, but that's not too much of a problem as the gallery has its own search built in.

Last week we got our team logo put onto a t-shirt by KC-Workwear and it looks fantastic, I can't wait to see the finished shirts, but that's going to be a couple of weeks away yet as we need to get people to decide on their Fish Names and the shirts have to be ordered in bulk. We also picked out the caps and hoodies that we're going to get done as well. I can see me spending a lot of money on softball kit this year and that's even before I start looking at gloves and bats!

Aside from the website and kit we're actually getting people signed up to play which is great! Our first tournament at Glasgow is a long way off but I think we've pretty much got a full line up already - although there are always last minute changes. We are planning on going to the following slow pitch softbal tournaments in 2007
  • Glasgow Tartan Tournament - May 26/27
  • Bristol Rec Tournament - August 18/19
  • Edinburgh Festiball Tournament - 25/26 August
  • Solent Lastball Tournament - TBC
  • Softball 'D Nationals' - TBC

So a pretty packed line up of tournaments, we won't be doing the Manchester Tournament because people will probably be playing for their own teams as it's our local tournament and the Fish is meant to be a touring softball team.

Cheeky Indoor Bunt

An actual softball video, not a softball party video! Taken at Edinburgh Indoor Festiball last year in March.

Steve and Lloyd are in the suicide spots, maybe not quite ready for this bunt. I'm lurking in the background in the outfield, Jo is pitching and I think that Sarah G (soon to be M) is on 2nd base. Dave makes a split second cameo on the very left hand side of the frame just before the end of the clip and I can't work out who the others are.

As we've not played any games as The Fish yet there's no Fish pics or videos to put on the site. This is the Surfin' Centurions - the predecessors to The Fish.

The Edinburgh Indoor was a really good weekend, and I'm definitely looking forward to it again in a few weeks time (14/15th April 2007).

Knocking down plastic cups at Solent 06

We were bored at the party at last year's Solent Lastball Tournament, some innocent little children were having a great time stacking up some empty plastic cups. We had a great time knocking them back down again. Pre-Fish shenanigans.
